CBI and BusinessEurope highlight importance of trade continuity
In March 2019, the CBI and BusinessEurope held a trade panel event to focus on potential issues surrounding EU trade in the wake of Brexit.
The panel event featured the Japanese Ambassador to the EU, a senior Turkish official and a range of trade experts, working to highlight the importance of continuity of trade with EU third countries for firms across Europe as well as in the UK.
A disorderly Brexit would be hugely damaging to UK-EU trade, but also for UK trade around the world. And with trade nowadays being about production across borders rather than just selling across borders, EU firms are rightly concerned.
Raising awareness of these issues with key sister business federations is important to form a united business voice and continues to drive positive conversations on a multilateral level. The CBI Brussels team has an extensive network across Europe for the benefit of members, working closely with BusinessEurope to promote British interests on the continent.
The CBI will continue to drive conversations about trade continuity post-Brexit, as it remains a significant concern for members who trade internationally. Disruption to these trade relationships is something most UK businesses simply cannot afford.
