CBI meets with Japanese officials
Stressing the opportunities for UK-Japan trade.
The CBI team has built a strong relationship with the Japanese government and in the most recent meeting stressed the opportunities for UK-Japan trade.
The new EU-Japan trade agreement is comprehensive and significantly opens up the Japanese market, both for goods and services firms. The CBI is pressing for an equally comprehensive agreement to be struck between the UK and Japan to ensure there is no loss of competitiveness compared to EU firms.
The importance of the trade relationship was also raised at the B20 (the business equivalent of the G20) in Tokyo. The CBI led the UK delegation and Carolyn Fairbairn championed the importance of strengthening the trade relationship with key Japanese officials, as well as with Keidanren (the Japanese sister federation).
This is a highly positive outcome for developing the future trade opportunities and relationships between UK and Japanese businesses. The CBI will continue to listen to feedback from members around where market access improvements would significantly support their growth.
