CBI pushes back on calls to reduce business involvement in public service delivery
In an Op-ed for Civil Service World, the CBI’s Chief UK Policy Director called on industry and government to work better together.
Whilst the need to deliver Brexit has led to many items of the domestic agenda being placed on the backburner, the CBI argued that outsourcing is one area in which Whitehall has made some progress.
Highlighting the development of the Outsourcing Playbook in particular, the op-ed argues that the government is taking positive steps to develop more collaborative and effective partnerships with its suppliers.
This is critical given the sheer size of the market and the growing calls for reduced business involvement in the public sector following some high-profile contract failures. The Labour Party, in particular, have been consistently calling for more local government contracts to be brought back in house and for business to be stripped of contracts involving complex service provision.
To solve some of the biggest challenges facing society, the op-ed pushed back on this negative rhetoric and argues that Government must harness the very best that both the public and private sector have to offer.
This is one in a series of public interventions from the CBI championing the role of business in the public sector.
