Strengthening the UK’s economic resilience
Risks in the global economy are on the rise and unforeseen shocks in recent years have impacted business operations and economic growth. Find out what the CBI's doing about it.
The challenge businesses are facing
Risks in the global economy are on the rise and unforeseen shocks in recent years have impacted business operations and economic growth.
Cisco’s Cyber Security Readiness Index 2024 highlights a significant gap in the business community and SMEs in particular still struggle to embed cyber resilience into their operations.
The pandemic, conflict in Ukraine, and escalating tensions in the Red Sea have shown the impact of global events on UK supply chains, making it necessary for industry to adapt.
Members are increasingly reporting that geopolitical risk has risen up the agenda, and that a fragmented global economy plus trade protectionist trends are threatening economic growth.
What the CBI is asking for
The CBI and its membership can lead the debate on resilience providing practical solutions to implement across the UK economy.
The CBI is exploring issues such as supply chain resilience, maximising cyber security, and the role of Government in balancing economic and national security interests through its foreign policy.
The insurance sector plays a pivotal role in this by helping UK industry comprehend and manage risks, as well as providing support during unexpected shocks.
Digital tools, particularly driven by AI, can help map company’s supply chains, enhance cyber security, outlining areas where change is needed.
Business will be able to help shape the next government’s resilience strategy hardwiring cooperation mechanisms.
How to get involved
The CBI will draft a position paper and engage with the new Government over the summer to ensure the UK’s economic resilience is a key priority in their agenda.
Members will then be reconvened in September, along with a political speaker, to crystallise policy recommendations and a delivery plan between business and government.
