The UK and the US share a massive bilateral trade and investment relationship. Individually, they are each other’s largest single foreign investor, totalling combined investments greater than $1 trillion. The CBI believes a strengthened relationship, with or without a free trade agreement, could greatly improve the competitiveness of the UK economy.
The CBI welcomed the Department for International Trade (DIT)’s consultation inquiry into the UK’s future trading relationship with the USA last year. We’re committed to establishing a constructive environment for the investment and growth of UK business interests in the US through our office in Washington, D.C. and have maintained a strong relationship with federal, state, and local government, as well as non-governmental partners to extend the reach of UK business into every corner of the United States.
