Work Health Index: caring for your staff will help you keep your staff
Answering labour shortages and productivity challenges through providing better workplace health? We’ve got a tool for that.
“As the head of any organisation, you can have the brand, the IP, the systems, the physical assets. But without the right workforce you’ve got next to nothing.”
This was the emphatic message that came from Amanda Pritchard, CEO of the NHS, speaking at the CBI’s Annual Conference as an employer hit by serious labour shortages. As the 4th largest employer in the world, in an industry where lives depend on the workforce it has, the ramifications of those shortages don’t get much more serious.
Pritchard talked about the importance of finding long-term solutions. She also acknowledged that cost of living and pay will dominate the short term. But bridging both, and as a constant priority, she is also determined to do more to look after the health and wellbeing of existing staff – by borrowing from the best of business, and by supporting initiatives such as the CBI’s Work Health Index.
Large or small, every company can do something about workplace health.
The Work Health Index – developed in collaboration with Business for Health – lets your business benchmark the health and wellbeing offer you provide to your employees. It shares best practice across comparable businesses, so firms can learn from each other, helping them understand what they can do, where they can improve and – in a tight labour market – where they can find competitive advantage.
Collectively the firms involved will be proactively helping improve the health of the nation. Because poor health in the working-age population is costing the UK £300bn in lost economic output. And prevention is just as important as support.
Complete the index to benchmark your policies, practices and provisions that are relevant to the health and productivity of your workforce.
