The CBI continues to highlight the fallout of a no deal scenario
22 February 2019
To start the week, CBI Director-General, Carolyn Fairbairn, featured in a Sunday Times article saying that businesses are “in despair”. She went on to urge the government that any changes to the deal must pass three tests: protecting our economy, commanding majority support in Parliament, and being negotiable with the EU.
Also this week, the CBI has been vocal on the disastrous impact uncertainty is having on businesses across the UK. In a Times Thunderer, Carolyn called for politicians to avert a no‑deal, being clear that while the never-ending parliamentary process limps on, the economic impact of no deal planning is accelerating.
Finally, in a number of regional Op-Eds the CBI has emphasised the hugely damaging implications for the UK of crashing out of 40 trade agreements spanning five continents it belongs to through EU membership.
