CBI Northern Ireland responds to the General Election
13 December 2019
Angela McGowan, CBI Northern Ireland Director, said:
“After three and a half years of gridlock, the Prime Minister has a clear mandate to govern. Businesses across Northern Ireland urge him to use it to rebuild confidence right across the UK economy and break the cycle of uncertainty.
“Local employers are ready to play a leading role, collaborating with government to make the local economy work for everyone. Protecting Northern Irish businesses’ position in the UK’s internal market and across the island of Ireland will be crucial as Brexit talks continue.
“Businesses are doing amazing things all over Northern Ireland, but they desperately want to see that confidence rebuilt and a clear direction set so they can unleash those pent-up investment plans currently sitting on hold.
“Infrastructure, skills and connectivity are the key issues for a thriving local economy, while we simultaneously push towards zero carbon economic growth.
“Underpinning all this must be a concerted effort to restore power-sharing at Stormont. The main parties must now come together to represent this region. Local politicians have a duty to help people and businesses in every community across Northern Ireland so that we can build our economy and share prosperity.”
