CBI responds to publication of new immigration rules
22 October 2020
Matthew Fell, CBI Chief UK Policy Director, said:
“Firms will be relieved to have confirmation of the rules underpinning the UK’s new points-based immigration system and can now begin to plan in full. However, there’s only a very short window to get essential processes in place with free movement ending on January 1st and the scale of change for UK employers should not be underestimated.
“COVID-19 has had a significant and damaging impact on the UK labour market and the new immigration system will play an vital role in our recovery by allowing firms to access skills that aren’t readily available domestically. Government must use the remaining months of 2020 to help businesses to understand how they will need to engage with the new system, particularly those that have no experience of the current visa system.”
