CBI responds to the Chancellor's Conservative Party Conference speech
05 October 2020
Dame Carolyn Fairbairn, CBI Director-General, said:
“The Chancellor is right to highlight the scale of business support so far, but is also right to commit to a willingness to act further. Even since the Winter Economy Plan was launched the world has changed. The costs of the pandemic are falling deeply and unevenly. It is vital to protect the enablers of our future economy under greatest stress, from aviation and manufacturing to hospitality and events.
“All restrictions must be based on clear, transparent evidence, rapid mass testing must be turbo charged alongside test and trace, and further support should be considered for those sectors worst hit by lockdown measures.
“Protecting our economy’s ability to recover is the best route to balancing the books.”
