CBI Scotland responds to First Minister's latest Covid update
18 January 2022
Tracy Black, CBI Scotland Director, said:
“Removing indoor hospitality restrictions will come as a huge relief to firms desperate to start trading their way to recovery after a difficult festive period. The decision not to extend the vaccine passport scheme will also be welcomed.
“Employers have consistently prioritised the safety of staff and customers throughout the pandemic and will continue to support baseline measures, including face coverings, increased hygiene on premises, vaccines, and free mass testing.
“Employers have been engaging positively with staff in recent months to shape new ways of working that suit both parties and will be keen to see ongoing guidance to work from home lifted in full. While hybrid working is here to stay, there are clear benefits to being in the office – like collaboration and on-the-job learning. Blanket working from home guidance can also restrict trade for some businesses and have an impact on mental wellbeing.
“With many firms still experiencing diminished demand, getting financial support to those who have been impacted by recent restrictions as quickly as possible is crucial. In the longer-term, certainty and consistency are key to unleashing business investment to build a strong and sustainable recovery as we learn to live confidently with the virus.”
