Our comments on Government environmental announcements

James Diggle, CBI Head of Energy and Climate Change, said:

“Business welcomes the Government’s plans to improve energy efficiency and tackle transport emissions. Firms are right behind the 2050 net-zero emissions target, so it’s very encouraging to see these steps in the right direction.

“We have been calling for action to improve energy efficiency and the performance of commercial buildings, a vital step towards net-zero emissions. The Government must work with business to develop these new standards and put them into practise.

“The Transport Decarbonisation Plan recognises that a coordinated approach across all types of transport will be key to reducing emissions.

“The creation of the new Office for Environmental Protection is another important step towards a rigorous environmental regime and will help scrutinise plans for net-zero emissions.”
