Trade is the cornerstone of strong British economy

Carolyn Fairbairn, CBI Director-General, said:
“Trade between the United Kingdom and international partners is the cornerstone of our strong economy. It creates new jobs, raises productivity and increases prosperity across the country, and indeed, the world.
“The European Union is our closest trading partner, with 45% of UK exports heading to the continent. The absolute top priority for firms remains securing a good trade deal with the EU, with frictionless trade for goods and ambitious access for our world-beating services sector.
“As the UK charts a new course in its journey as a trading nation, it’s also vital that we seize the many opportunities in rapidly growing markets across the globe - from Malaysia to Mozambique to Mexico – for our exporters.
“The UK has some of the best, and most highly sought, products and services available in the world, so we look forward to working closely with the Government to ensure the interests of business are reflected in the UK’s trade policy.”
